Day Eight: Traveling to Siem Reap

It is our second Saturday in Cambodia, and we took an extra half hour to sleep in this morning. Although we are tired from this very busy week, reflecting on it I wish we had two week sessions with AIM. It went by so fast, and we were just getting comfortable. …Next time…

A six hour ride to Siem Reap was the plan. And, knowing how roads can be in Asia during the rainy season, I was grateful to see that actually the road was pretty nice. We made good time, were able to stop when we needed to, and we have a good driver.

Thirty kilometers before reaching Siem Reap, we took a detour and rented a boat out on Tonle Sap Lake, to see the floating villages. Although it wasn’t what I was expecting, I was very impressed by these house boats with solar panels and satellite antennas, a school, kids swimming, shops, and people swinging in their hammocks in the middle of the day. What a life, if you love being around water and you love fish for every meal! (looks like sardines)

The service in our hotel is awesome! A welcoming cold drink and frozen towels. A dip in the pool. A clean room with some class. And… it is walking distance from the night market. So we made sure to pick up some kampot peppercorns for Ben’s obsession with the local Lok Luk cuisine, and of course dried mangoes.
