Arriving in Cambodia

Once two flights, totaling 16 hours, were finished, we made it to our destination. But it only took 30 minutes to see our God at work in the world around us.

After disembarking our plane and navigating through the always unfriendly customs process, we stepped into the humid night air only to be greeted by our driver and a representative from Agape International Missions (AIM). Early into the ride our Cambodian front-passenger-seat navigator turned around and proudly said, “I’m Christian.” We all chuckled softly at the boldness with which he presented himself. I can’t remember the last time I met someone who told me their religious affiliation within the first ten minutes of meeting them.

Later I realized this was a profound thing he was doing. In a country that is mostly Buddhist or religiously unaffiliated, he was excited to share with someone his proud belief. Too often we make our faith into an individual aspiration or discovery. But besides our amazing God, what makes our faith impenetrable is the support that comes with sharing Christ’s love in a community.
